Fall into 3rd Grade!

Do you like fall? The third graders in Miss Trickett’s class brainstormed a list of all of the fall words they could possibly think of. Then they selected their own word, wrote a poem about fall, and designed their own leaf dude or dudette to start the season in style! Enjoy the beautiful fall color as well as these third grade poems!

“Dress-Up” a Pumpkin Book Character Project

Purpose:  Bring a children’s book character to life.

Project:  Students will choose a character from one of their favorite books and decorate a pumpkin to resemble that character.  We ask that a copy of the book also be sent to school with the pumpkin character.  The book can be brought from home or checked out from the library.  During the week of conferences, we will display your child’s pumpkin with his or her book!  This will be a fun family project and an opportunity to spend time together having fun!  Let your creativity fly! J

Possible Supplies:  Small to medium-sized pumpkin, paint, construction paper, glue, wrapping paper, fabric, etc.  Please remember that you are decorating your pumpkin, not carving it.

It's fun to learn like a Fisher CAT!

Fisher third grade sings: “It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat”

Fisher Elementary students had their first assembly of the school year Thursday (Sept. 29), which featured a special performance by third grade.
The students wore hard hats as a nod to the ongoing construction project at the school, then sang a song about Fisher Elementary to the tune of The Village People’s “YMCA”. The lyrics embodied the school’s expectations for behavior.

Fisher CAT (YMCA) Theme Song
Fisher, there’s no need to feel down
We said, Fisher, pick yourself off the ground.
We said, Fisher, ‘cause you’re in Marshalltown;
There’s no need to be unhappy!

Fisher, there’s a place you can go,
We said, Fisher, when your knowledge is low
You can stay here and I’m sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!
It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!

We have everything that you need to enjoy
You can hang with most teachers oh boy!

It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!
It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!

You can get ready to learn
You can always be safe

Re-spon-si-ble; re-spect-ful.
Fisher, are you listening to me?

We said, Fisher, what do you want to be?
We said, Fisher, you can make real your dreams;
But you’ve got to know this one thing.
No one does it all all be himself,

We said, Fisher, put your pride on the shelf.
And just go there like the C-A-T-S!(actions)
Teachers can help you with that.

It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!
It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!

They have every-thing that you need to enjoy
You can hang out with most teachers; oh boy!

It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!
It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!

You can get ready to learn
You can always be safe
Re-spon-si-ble; re-spect-ful.

Fisher, we all do our best
We said, Fisher, hard work is the test.
We can learn here; each and every—day
To-get-her we can go all the way!

That’s when someone came up to me
And said, students, who do you want to be?

There’s a place here where learning is grand
Come along with us to make a huge stand

It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!
It’s fun to learn like a cool Fisher Cat!

They have every-thing that you need to enjoy
You can hang out with most teachers; oh boy!

C-A-T-S ( body actions & movement)
It’s fun to learn like cool C-A-T-S (actions)

Fisher, there’s no need to feel down.
Fisher, pick yourself off the ground!

C-A-T-S (actions)
Then just be cool C-A-T-S (actions)
Fisher, we have all gone to school
Fisher, we said, follow the golden rule
C-A-T-S

3rd Grade Comes to a Close

Wowie! What a year! Third grade came to a close at 3:21 on June 3rd. What a final day of learning we did have. We had an end of the year assembly with many attendance awards handed out. We then went to transition day to meet and chat with our 4th grade teachers. Next, we watched Ramona Quimby, Age 8 after reading the entire book as our final chapter book challenge to end the year. We quenched our thirst on a hot day at taste Freeze and completed our learning opportunities with a fluffball and capture the flag challenge with all 3 third grade classes! Be sure to have a super summer and follow these challenges for summer homeworkopoly to keep from getting out of routine: (IDEAS)

1.Read 15-30 minutes per day
2.Visit the Marshalltown Public Library
3.Practice multiplication & division facts 10-15 minutes daily
4.Keep a summer log  writing your experiences; keep a list of things you do
5.Practice Fisher Cat expectations
6.Stay cool & be safe

3rd Grade Lunch Slips For Taylor Schoolhouse & Marshalltown Walking Tour

3rd Grade Field Trips ! ! !
The third graders have 2 field trips coming before the end of the year arrives that will both require a sack lunch! Please think about the following 2 trips and decide if you would like to order a school sack lunch or will be bringing your own lunch from home for both of these trips. In order to prepare the M’town Food Service we will need to turn this order in to them no later than March 31st! The Taylor Schoolhouse trip is scheduled for each third grade class by themselves. This trip will allow your child to dress as a student from the 1800’s and reenact life as a child attending school in a one room schoolhouse with one teacher for students in grades 1-6. Our Marshalltown Walking Tour will provide your child the opportunity to visit the Riverside Cemetery to do rubbing from the founding fathers they have studied in our history unit in the morning & then visit museums and businesses to learn additional information from some of the oldest places and businesses in our town!

*April 26th---3 Lenz to Taylor Schoolhouse
27th---3 Trickett to Taylor Schoolhouse
28th---3 Pollpeter to Taylor Schoolhouse

*May 27th—All 3rd graders to our Marshalltown Walking Tour

Check your choice for each date, return the slip to your child’s teacher, and cut along the line to save the top piece of this note for your records!

Third Graders Study Puffins!

In third grade we have been reading a story called Night of the Pufflings. Before reading this story, we did a lot of research to find out more about these birds, in order to build our background knowlege about this topic. We read a plethora of books from our media center. Be sure to ask a third grader to find out the answers to the following questions:

1.What do puffins eat?

2.Where do puffins live?

3.What do we call baby puffins?

4.What do puffins look like?

5.How do puffins raise their young?

6.What are the three main types of puffins?

7.What characteristics can you identify about the following birds:
*Atlantic Puffin
*Horned Puffin
*Tufted Puffin

8.How fast can puffins fly?

Fisher Punch Cards are Back!

Each student has received a "Pawsitive Punch Card." During the month of February, every time students get "caught" doing something positive, they will receive a punch. Filled cards will also be displayed in our hallway. At Fisher, we want to focus on the positive things kids are doing to encourage them to continue on with positive behavior! You can talk to your child about how receiving a punch makes them feel and what their plan is to keep doing positive things! :)
